A jar of almonds, a packet of walnuts, sesame beside the spice box, pumpkin seeds in the pantry and flax or chia waiting to be stirred into something.

They can all look like variations of one idea:

small plant foods that you sprinkle, snack on or add because they are “good for you.”

That description is too vague to be useful in the kitchen.

Quick Clarity: Nuts and seeds overlap in some nutritional and culinary characteristics, but they are not one interchangeable category. Richness

For a shared household kitchen, the practical lesson is simple:

similar culinary roles do not mean identical allergen considerations.

Where Indian Culinary Practice Fits

Indian kitchens have long used nuts and seeds for more than snacking.

Groundnuts can enter chutneys and snack mixtures.

Sesame can appear in chutneys, spice blends, sweets and coatings.

Cashews may add richness or garnish.

Almonds and pistachios may appear in sweets, milk-based preparations or festive foods.
